Last, but definitely not least in our line-up of new artists, is Richard Swann.<br />
<br />
Richard originally trained and qualified at Leeds. He is now based in Hastings, East Sussex where he takes inspiration from daily life and "whatever happens to cross (my) path". <br />
<br />
This usually takes the form of "the daily parade of bohemian eccentricity, the sometimes wild weather, the abundance of fishing boats, and the odd black cat".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN2P5DqxnQabkLUTQDF6a-l-t_k2i6wXTbgHaI3jim8BsTnJq4DcQ-Ty4Z3A11QgwMPIONjh3FH0aLdB56MRTeo_usb0qK8fr0VpLSW9xV6Mv2CvKKNADq7vpJbpT2N6gBZUR5F5pELSFu/s1600/Richard-Swann-Red-Admiral.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgN2P5DqxnQabkLUTQDF6a-l-t_k2i6wXTbgHaI3jim8BsTnJq4DcQ-Ty4Z3A11QgwMPIONjh3FH0aLdB56MRTeo_usb0qK8fr0VpLSW9xV6Mv2CvKKNADq7vpJbpT2N6gBZUR5F5pELSFu/s320/Richard-Swann-Red-Admiral.jpg" width="211" height="320" data-original-width="1055" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div><br />
Richard has a background in illustration and has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and many times at the Mall Galleries in London. <br />
<br />
When not working in his Hastings studio, he can often be found working 'en plein air' around the south coast of England and beyond. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwSvMZMSyoEkUUmjk_hLJ-1BGsYN79uthP69ifT7eM4o42doRabfxLMYCPqR8SU7KUlujCYaRWVqpby61Ln2_gwCmGwe4x9V9diGzhHjSLKldM4Cc0Jex7HdoSWnwTTTUbfWSoFIPi10fX/s1600/image001+%25284%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwSvMZMSyoEkUUmjk_hLJ-1BGsYN79uthP69ifT7eM4o42doRabfxLMYCPqR8SU7KUlujCYaRWVqpby61Ln2_gwCmGwe4x9V9diGzhHjSLKldM4Cc0Jex7HdoSWnwTTTUbfWSoFIPi10fX/s320/image001+%25284%2529.jpg" width="253" height="320" data-original-width="645" data-original-height="815" /></a></div><br />
He says he is most at home drawing with a pencil whilst relaxing in a pub or café. In recent years, he has taken the spontaneity of mark-making from quick sketches into paintings using oil as his preferred medium.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuqcQh6Jt1kXvHl5duDSDDPjS0wr5ToqRbehKzGIKMT7QcKTVzrrG_ARW5zhBtuFiq-17malG8EZP5RBp3hxAfA_jchVJ3W4ynLr4zMEWCOjzScB8LBHA9b0EcChYZ-MxhbtWygHlc6PlC/s1600/Great-Tit-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuqcQh6Jt1kXvHl5duDSDDPjS0wr5ToqRbehKzGIKMT7QcKTVzrrG_ARW5zhBtuFiq-17malG8EZP5RBp3hxAfA_jchVJ3W4ynLr4zMEWCOjzScB8LBHA9b0EcChYZ-MxhbtWygHlc6PlC/s320/Great-Tit-1.jpg" width="320" height="231" data-original-width="600" data-original-height="434" /></a></div><br />

Diana's love of fabric and thread started in early childhood. Whilst she initially worked in oils and ceramics, she more recently came back to using fabric, thread and mixed media to create her pictures.<br />
<br />
As an experienced traveller, Diana is inspired by the natural beauty in the landscapes and surfaces that she sees and which lend themselves well to the media that she works in. <br />
<br />
During her travels to Australia and New Zealand, Diana was struck by the effect of colour and light on the landscapes and sea. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQm5FMcsmK598VX9_vsTY1fOVVMn8mdXG4xHw8FxVbFrx1D-t4WBJ3x5dujsG9Ah_6q0Fw264yv0lFRw1rz0xKNqSTvLhTJnA9CWrqm-tSrqXNphLU2DGYkv9b20YnJyKCdutYlDR9iFff/s1600/Swirling+Tide+Diana+mckinnon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQm5FMcsmK598VX9_vsTY1fOVVMn8mdXG4xHw8FxVbFrx1D-t4WBJ3x5dujsG9Ah_6q0Fw264yv0lFRw1rz0xKNqSTvLhTJnA9CWrqm-tSrqXNphLU2DGYkv9b20YnJyKCdutYlDR9iFff/s320/Swirling+Tide+Diana+mckinnon.jpg" width="320" height="224" data-original-width="1400" data-original-height="980" /></a></div><br />
"This led me to experiment with layering lurex and chiffon to reflect the vibrancy of the colours of the scenery," she says.<br />
<br />
Diana's work was originally historically based, covering art from Crete and ancient Greece, but many different influences can now be seen: the natural environment and the architecture of Venice as well as artists such as Mackintosh, Monet and Klimt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLhhuYoN-ftniHbkLofkUTsqbPFHcAzHS75L2VOkuYhKc3vZ1IWowYlK_yqZLt1omNBr3_kXgb136M_6tFHJ_ck5YMoU669ZJg5SHxt84s0H4WAcULaEP4N7QdBKmlDIESTd1LSSeheeU5/s1600/Long+Border+Great+Dixter+++34+x+44+cm+%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLhhuYoN-ftniHbkLofkUTsqbPFHcAzHS75L2VOkuYhKc3vZ1IWowYlK_yqZLt1omNBr3_kXgb136M_6tFHJ_ck5YMoU669ZJg5SHxt84s0H4WAcULaEP4N7QdBKmlDIESTd1LSSeheeU5/s320/Long+Border+Great+Dixter+++34+x+44+cm+%25281%2529.jpg" width="221" height="320" data-original-width="1103" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div><br />
The materials and techniques used in Diana's work are varied. The former include chiffon, silk, metallic thread, sea shell fragments, paper, metal, ceramics and handmade textiles such as silk paper and the latter range from stitching and free machine embroidery to melting, creating burned edges and distressing fabric.<br />
<br />
"A key feature in my work is the layering of different fabrics which achieves two kinds of effect: creating depth of colour and vision as well as removing sections of material to reveal the colours below," says Diana. <br />
<br />
"The work is then embellished with metal, beads, silk paper and free machine embroidery."<br />
<br />
Diana's work is featured in our exhibition "And Then Came Spring", which runs until Monday 27th May.<br />

From her studio in Lindfield, Georgina creates bold striking contemporary watercolours of birds, landscapes and animals that attract the viewer’s attention. <br />
<br />
She deliberately leaves areas of her paintings unfinished, allowing the viewer to complete the picture.<br />
<br />
"I strive not to replicate an exact copy of my chosen subject, but rather to give my impression of it," she says.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGhrlYf5JrqY6cUkA4AARFa3S5JY8j2CgDy__TVl40l5e_XvH503sZesOWUC23t1uvWF1DtTSWXdwXfob-PG7mXyjrl-Dw5ug-fOvPG5Yx259TWNY1Ihn89WemSHuA7Ll_1Bn7kB0fygM-/s1600/image1+%252855%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGhrlYf5JrqY6cUkA4AARFa3S5JY8j2CgDy__TVl40l5e_XvH503sZesOWUC23t1uvWF1DtTSWXdwXfob-PG7mXyjrl-Dw5ug-fOvPG5Yx259TWNY1Ihn89WemSHuA7Ll_1Bn7kB0fygM-/s320/image1+%252855%2529.jpeg" width="306" height="320" data-original-width="612" data-original-height="640" /></a></div><br />
Her aim is to create a painting that portrays the subject's character. <br />
<br />
"The eyes in my paintings are the most important part," says Georgina. "Once I’ve captured them, the rest falls into place."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt73zuYd0Ks0jv-i_DCEWDwgbnyZgHf-ytXdEWxRIIEzkxWEGNij7ue0pizq4J_2yooro9y_04ugoOrOJkKTHYwjwgWGfNPd8dOqXiUAuXUi5FgaXwAOpNPWB790z7J2WReNOo2kef7yEn/s1600/image001+%25286%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt73zuYd0Ks0jv-i_DCEWDwgbnyZgHf-ytXdEWxRIIEzkxWEGNij7ue0pizq4J_2yooro9y_04ugoOrOJkKTHYwjwgWGfNPd8dOqXiUAuXUi5FgaXwAOpNPWB790z7J2WReNOo2kef7yEn/s320/image001+%25286%2529.jpg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="1512" data-original-height="1512" /></a></div><br />
As a trained illustrator and graphic designer, Georgina relishes the freedom of watercolours. <br />
<br />
"I love the way that working with watercolour, wet on wet, allows me to “let go” and enjoy the fantastic mistakes that happen along the way to create the finished piece."<br />
<br />
Georgina's work is part of our exhibition "And Then Came Spring", which runs until Monday 27th May. <br />

Shelley is the next of our 'new' artists: she is predominantly a figurative artist but often explores both rural and urban landscapes.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibIvzmD4-pIgfRdMfHOiCSEXk0wYGmT75z1vHQLXl6ppshS5T54mKSWzwEOAOozqJpoVdxQ0EYieSY7XwkXI5gyIJ3uVkArwPmlJvBkn3XE1P-IJoLWheZGMXaQSff52smeoWZ6qqfPGMS/s1600/SHELLEY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibIvzmD4-pIgfRdMfHOiCSEXk0wYGmT75z1vHQLXl6ppshS5T54mKSWzwEOAOozqJpoVdxQ0EYieSY7XwkXI5gyIJ3uVkArwPmlJvBkn3XE1P-IJoLWheZGMXaQSff52smeoWZ6qqfPGMS/s320/SHELLEY.jpg" width="320" height="68" data-original-width="490" data-original-height="104" /></a></div><br />
Her main medium is watercolour which she uses as a fluid form, capturing the atmosphere of a place or the gesture of a person rather than a precise representation. <br />
<br />
Her work often spills over into textiles such as embroidered drawings or simple craft items. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXjomaKAULzps7SQPRAJutTKWU002-_X-O7-j8njhxF4RJhKpOwSOvMi3LWoUwFplW8dFV4NvqymtPrUFycsvfcjc9iJlGfUT_MH9UN1nw1sCmMcOsY7q-rfZOWqW9metG-vODi98l-d-_/s1600/image1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXjomaKAULzps7SQPRAJutTKWU002-_X-O7-j8njhxF4RJhKpOwSOvMi3LWoUwFplW8dFV4NvqymtPrUFycsvfcjc9iJlGfUT_MH9UN1nw1sCmMcOsY7q-rfZOWqW9metG-vODi98l-d-_/s320/image1.jpeg" width="293" height="320" data-original-width="586" data-original-height="640" /></a></div><br />
She has an MA in Fine Art and an appreciation of both conceptual art and craft so her work often blurs the boundaries between the two. <br />
<br />
Shelley's work is part of our current exhibition "And Then Came Spring", which runs until Monday 27th May.<br />

Suzanne Hennegrave (flanked by her husband and Jill from the Gallery) is a semi-abstract, contemporary landscape painter and art educator and exhibiting with us for the first time. <br />
<br />
She is inspired by the land, sea and big skies. She paints in oils and mixed-media, from memory and experience, and her work is developed using artistic intuition. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4P0hZ27hWJ2-ux9HQpHW1samjvBGoC1d_zww-zDouJX0yd64TblKJE0so68ZSzk0zxPOuh1yVH7IdKy9kORmoKbmKHYeovAmXzDheuXtL8QrkMLykfVQg8fHXuaEA31rTJHg8OlvHZKy-/s1600/suzanne.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4P0hZ27hWJ2-ux9HQpHW1samjvBGoC1d_zww-zDouJX0yd64TblKJE0so68ZSzk0zxPOuh1yVH7IdKy9kORmoKbmKHYeovAmXzDheuXtL8QrkMLykfVQg8fHXuaEA31rTJHg8OlvHZKy-/s320/suzanne.webp" width="320" height="267" data-original-width="534" data-original-height="445" /></a></div><br />
Her greatest loves are atmospheric weather and fleeting light and this she tries to capture in her work, through her own emotional response. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-jJYKfh3zx38siXC2TxghlfI1MOg3Q8EsZgcbe2jSkBjezwaHpA079Gec1LLKOAFtP5h12KJk44q_wOXjfK4jBYETKgnJ5hW5SX9K74fdQZHVbEX0bHG1I2-p1pthE1P_sz3d962fG4iT/s1600/Suzanne+Hennegrave+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-jJYKfh3zx38siXC2TxghlfI1MOg3Q8EsZgcbe2jSkBjezwaHpA079Gec1LLKOAFtP5h12KJk44q_wOXjfK4jBYETKgnJ5hW5SX9K74fdQZHVbEX0bHG1I2-p1pthE1P_sz3d962fG4iT/s320/Suzanne+Hennegrave+2.JPG" width="318" height="320" data-original-width="1592" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div><br />
"Much of my inspiration comes from the beauty of my surroundings," says Suzanne, who lives in the South Downs National Park.<br />

We enjoyed spending time with Sue (on the left) at our recent launch party and finding out a bit more about her work and what inspires her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhESrgdZ5BZOG3wiHNq2LoxC3qZJtZ0tLpxKyfl6HVfnkmZpPSfKzrEMvhyuiDaT7s4LcNdNJeBxJzhuNvtsIMWnZvQN0UIZDTzwxS2FKMoXJwaG5kDJq7Dzwuv2FlzOGoigTSQfeSyHjDv/s1600/013.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhESrgdZ5BZOG3wiHNq2LoxC3qZJtZ0tLpxKyfl6HVfnkmZpPSfKzrEMvhyuiDaT7s4LcNdNJeBxJzhuNvtsIMWnZvQN0UIZDTzwxS2FKMoXJwaG5kDJq7Dzwuv2FlzOGoigTSQfeSyHjDv/s320/013.JPG" width="320" height="209" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1047" /></a></div><br />
"My love of clay has thrived over three decades and I still find the process of making exhilarating and rewarding," she says. <br />
<br />
She graduated from Camberwell School of Art in 1983 with a BA (Hons) in 3D Design specialising in Ceramics and was then awarded a prestigious Crafts Council setting-up grant and bursary with which to establish her first studio. <br />
<br />
"Over the intervening years, two children, ups and downs and general life experiences, I continue to make and sell my ceramics and have also developed a passion for creating mosaics."<br />
<br />
Sue's most recent ceramic pieces are high-fired vessels in stoneware and porcelain and draw upon geology, organic forms and the natural world. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhffe7VcGJJujUbuUTYAlJw3PC0rLdBbxwLqmpanh1w0XsYm-gmGRRldO3LVSX_QeopopQGVkKeqa-EaHC8MtuMXkHB5HlTSXF91nX1WhJCwLweG7pNa71p9OJ14Ub_8zLDn5rFKjvlNhK-/s1600/Porcelain+landscape+vessels.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhffe7VcGJJujUbuUTYAlJw3PC0rLdBbxwLqmpanh1w0XsYm-gmGRRldO3LVSX_QeopopQGVkKeqa-EaHC8MtuMXkHB5HlTSXF91nX1WhJCwLweG7pNa71p9OJ14Ub_8zLDn5rFKjvlNhK-/s320/Porcelain+landscape+vessels.JPG" width="320" height="258" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1290" /></a></div><br />
She makes her own glazes and describes herself as currently "in love with turquoise!"<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA1r8PEcNqL0JATaVfkuyIWlWEY1pHFgN9bEiQfF_T5hIBkUCyxQD8VtjOQQ62DWuL2bCW0K5s5BXvMGi3PQleU_k6uSYtGcgy5WF6JQeV2-PnHl3cGBDaiD2K5UvuZTCKDN_j-qym6a31/s1600/Fruiting+form+Bud+vases.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiA1r8PEcNqL0JATaVfkuyIWlWEY1pHFgN9bEiQfF_T5hIBkUCyxQD8VtjOQQ62DWuL2bCW0K5s5BXvMGi3PQleU_k6uSYtGcgy5WF6JQeV2-PnHl3cGBDaiD2K5UvuZTCKDN_j-qym6a31/s320/Fruiting+form+Bud+vases.JPG" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1200" /></a></div><br />
She also creates colourful and decorative earthenware pieces featuring vibrantly painted surface decoration of faces, animals and foliage. <br />
<br />
"I like to create the feeling of spontaneity in my brushwork, giving myself the freedom to encompass the space within the piece in a fluid, lyrical way," says Sue.<br />
<br />
Finally, when she isn't making ceramics, Sue is smashing them up! <br />
<br />
"My mosaics are made from a variety of materials, the traditional glass smalti and vitreous glass, but also ceramic pieces (some of which I glaze and fire especially) and reclaimed china," she says. <br />
<br />
Sue's work features in our current exhibition "And Then Came Spring", which runs until Monday 27th May.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7453985478330220523.post-7948825848383733592019-04-20T14:04:00.000+01:002019-04-20T14:04:38.950+01:00And Then Came Spring!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_L22MgAPjXft6nspmwiAsQUqk_w3FBa9sMsinHkBEL3InkF8Q4EQEePzGAR1PY7V4HRtHvSs7LBxieHfVg4dVMkzOJHz2AuLkPqORsAnJ75jLSk5H01-X_JTDUV1MBUOK1w1-Esk4p9nc/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_L22MgAPjXft6nspmwiAsQUqk_w3FBa9sMsinHkBEL3InkF8Q4EQEePzGAR1PY7V4HRtHvSs7LBxieHfVg4dVMkzOJHz2AuLkPqORsAnJ75jLSk5H01-X_JTDUV1MBUOK1w1-Esk4p9nc/s320/010.JPG" width="320" height="213" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1067" /></a><br />

Last week we won an award for "Outstanding Small Business" from Chestnut Tree House children's hospice.<br />
<br />
We supported Sussex's only children's hospice throughout last year as a way of celebrating the Gallery's 10th birthday. Whilst our fundraising was modest compared with other shortlisted businesses, we did our best to try and raise awareness of the charity in our local community. <br />
<br />
We had a fantastic experience working alongside Chestnut Tree House and would encourage anyone to get involved and help support this vital local charity. The award made us realise that even a small business like ours can play a very valuable role. <br />
<br />
So here we have a pictorial romp through the various events that we hosted for Chestnut Tree House last year... <br />
<br />
Our local MP, Sir Nicholas Soames, opened 'Through the Eyes of a Child', an exhibition themed around the children of the hospice, and including some of their artwork.<br />
<br />

In the summer, the Gallery's 10th birthday party marked the launch of 'The Other Summer Exhibition' when we showcased the work of our artists from across the entire decade. <br />
<br />
The Gallery's original founders, Julie Janvrin and Jules Middleton, returned to formally open the exhibition and, as with all event launches throughout the year, the Gallery donated 10% of the day's takings to Chestnut Tree House.<br />

In October, we hosted a charity stall with Chestnut Tree House at the popular Cuckfield Local Market. We offered a biscuit decorating activity for children plus a small selection of children's toys and CD's, with all proceeds going to the Hospice. <br />

In the autumn, we put on an exhibition of photographs by local photographer, Sophie Mitchell, of two Chestnut Tree House children, Charlotte and Jacob. <br />

<br />
Read on for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a far from typical week at The Green Tree Gallery!<br />
<br />
On Monday morning we met Sophie and her friend Tamsin at the Gallery bright and early so we could hang the exhibition's 89 photos whilst the Gallery was closed to the public. <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIaTmjG9xUTWnOKKICH263iQDoiLbw3SMDhIx7Q36EtDrenCnVqejz05KekH8lHk-QBX2wJPD5cP6ib_F_Uf8wEgn9I-skksB0eapR0cxbunYK942oFIq9Ln5xuNyrga__WDU0Tk7gC1o-/s1600/image3.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIaTmjG9xUTWnOKKICH263iQDoiLbw3SMDhIx7Q36EtDrenCnVqejz05KekH8lHk-QBX2wJPD5cP6ib_F_Uf8wEgn9I-skksB0eapR0cxbunYK942oFIq9Ln5xuNyrga__WDU0Tk7gC1o-/s320/image3.jpeg" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1200" /></a><br />
<br />
Wearing white cotton gloves to protect the photos, we worked our way through Sophie's detailed layout plan, feeling like historians handling ancient artifacts!<br />
<br />
By the end of the day we had all the photos up and the exhibition wall was complete, save for the title decals that were arriving on Tuesday, although Jill and Sam still had the rest of the Gallery to rehang!<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl9Mf7OcuGXpzoiQ3mMlXf7EVktY3H2_boNpNFM_8aswCQ0Ks3hLiz0Cf8eE_g8qQO3tddzIUKC4tpGD_YzYQbr5zHp-tNX1LObXdOoyzy3GTHp53C8uJSgPhIhqNc5RVag36Gr-2sK6En/s1600/image2+%25283%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjl9Mf7OcuGXpzoiQ3mMlXf7EVktY3H2_boNpNFM_8aswCQ0Ks3hLiz0Cf8eE_g8qQO3tddzIUKC4tpGD_YzYQbr5zHp-tNX1LObXdOoyzy3GTHp53C8uJSgPhIhqNc5RVag36Gr-2sK6En/s320/image2+%25283%2529.jpeg" width="252" height="320" data-original-width="504" data-original-height="640" /></a> <br />
<br />
Tuesday morning revealed an unexpected setback - cold overnight temperatures meant the photos were starting to peel off the wall! With the clock ticking and the rest of the Gallery still to rehang, the cavalry arrived in the form of Jill's sister, Tiff! <br />
<br />
Four 'woman' hours later, all the photos had been re-stuck securely and Jill and Sam could get on with Tuesday's planned job of curating and re-hanging the remaining walls and displays.<br />
<br />

Finally, late on Tuesday evening, the title decals were up and we were ready for Wednesday...<br />
<br />
The Gallery was closed to the public so that BBC South East Today could film an exclusive preview of the exhibition and interview the exhibition's stars, Charlotte and Jacob and their mums, Catriona and Elaine as well as photographer Sophie.<br />
<br />
It was fascinating seeing BBC South East Today reporter Amanda Akass and cameraman Nick in action... <br />

<br />
And despite the day's Brexit machinations, Amanda's heart-felt report on #For The Now featured in both Wednesday's evening and late news bulletins.<br />
<br />
By Saturday, we were ready for the main event - a party for the public launch of #For The Now!<br />

Singers, dancers, performers - some glazed, some raku-fired, some written over with sonnets or songs - Julie's work reflects her love of literature as well as her earlier career in the theatre.<br />

In 2008, together with her friend Jules Middleton, a painter, Julie founded The Green Tree Gallery as a platform for local artists and makers. Although she retired from the day-to-day running of the Gallery in 2013, Julie remains a guiding force.<br />

Tabitha specialises in creating paintings of animals in the style of medieval illuminated manuscripts. She paints in gouache or egg tempura and gilds with 24 ct gold leaf.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJu4G3UiE8ioiCTY8JN9ZY6b9B7GtlS1yDqEPXWNvrgLK-G5iQJiR0WWnkQXQKNKzZ6oL-Ko71mJoHh_6FkBWQVuExp95hXNfXFMMywc9jmqdLWKD44fnxKZ15faHautNeH_e8qggTtagw/s1600/DSC_0171.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJu4G3UiE8ioiCTY8JN9ZY6b9B7GtlS1yDqEPXWNvrgLK-G5iQJiR0WWnkQXQKNKzZ6oL-Ko71mJoHh_6FkBWQVuExp95hXNfXFMMywc9jmqdLWKD44fnxKZ15faHautNeH_e8qggTtagw/s320/DSC_0171.JPG" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a><br />
<br />
She has always been interested in the natural world and has been drawing and painting animals since childhood. <br />
<br />
She was a self-taught and self-employed taxidermist for 15 years before moving on to sculpt animals in clay. More recently Tabitha has gone back to her paint brushes, painting botanical and entomological subjects as well as reptiles and amphibians in oils, acrylics and water colour.<br />

The works displayed in "Through the Eyes of a Child" have all been created especially for the exhibition.<br />

"These paintings of Animal Alphabets are reminiscent of a child's introduction to the joy of books and the wonders of the natural world," says Tabitha.<br />

"Through the Eyes of a Child" runs until Saturday 12th May.<br />

<br />
"I have always been drawn to the look and feel of wood, its natural lines, the grain, the smells and its warmth as a raw material," says Yas. "Every piece of wood is unique and every turn of the lathe uncovers something totally new."<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg239CMQ9yPaGozE_ceu_neSlAwwESTOvBsmGZzu7Sqir-3KPurC7ulmoMKQ4Y75KUh3j-2F9AIiNb131Pardd2aUY89MY6md_Cr82YOGEvfEhy6TfQUztE6Hwp9_Ral-geRrIlqfBMq4jz/s1600/yas+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg239CMQ9yPaGozE_ceu_neSlAwwESTOvBsmGZzu7Sqir-3KPurC7ulmoMKQ4Y75KUh3j-2F9AIiNb131Pardd2aUY89MY6md_Cr82YOGEvfEhy6TfQUztE6Hwp9_Ral-geRrIlqfBMq4jz/s320/yas+3.jpg" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="750" data-original-height="563" /></a><br />
<br />
Yas had the opportunity to train as a wood turner back in 2015 and realised very quickly that he had a real passion for turning.<br />
<br />
"I purchased my own lathe shortly after and decided I would throw myself into woodturning. I quit my job in finance and spent the next two years covering myself in sawdust."<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAFSpt-xS1Mefd_Z6d288Un3aYIpgfTowRQ6tICjmCUtjZMs_dMyCPfNfSS7nZlpZhQoxKx3MzbVFFACRpzOHS6OUT7RDidF3jI67rGVnGHvtkkkk0jBjGYuQ8qqPsz6JS5w_iHCgAdmzl/s1600/yas+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAFSpt-xS1Mefd_Z6d288Un3aYIpgfTowRQ6tICjmCUtjZMs_dMyCPfNfSS7nZlpZhQoxKx3MzbVFFACRpzOHS6OUT7RDidF3jI67rGVnGHvtkkkk0jBjGYuQ8qqPsz6JS5w_iHCgAdmzl/s320/yas+4.jpg" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="750" data-original-height="563" /></a><br />
<br />
Wanting to do something different, Yas decided he would use resins with his pieces as a way of capturing the beauty within the wood.<br />
<br />
"My current pieces all include resins to either complement the wood or create something unusual," he says. "I love the way colours can be added to accentuate the piece or clear resins can be used to magnify the grain or create a feature within the wood."<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwnE_9nJUNA2d1Nf3R9lVRinTECdg2Rz7GhBFhfdGGZHXb5yIvWcFX4iiiKpbNGTgHwrzSVA3BKAiPlpP2BWjf0DpxV_rlxnS6f8yZaWUIFXtwJ7kEbbQ-CCNCwGxipFzyOKkSVq-y0v_t/s1600/YAS+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwnE_9nJUNA2d1Nf3R9lVRinTECdg2Rz7GhBFhfdGGZHXb5yIvWcFX4iiiKpbNGTgHwrzSVA3BKAiPlpP2BWjf0DpxV_rlxnS6f8yZaWUIFXtwJ7kEbbQ-CCNCwGxipFzyOKkSVq-y0v_t/s320/YAS+5.jpg" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="750" data-original-height="563" /></a><br />
<br />
"Flaws like worm holes, cracks and decayed wood are all beautiful to me and capturing these with resins creates something truly unique."<br />
<br />
"Through the Eyes of a Child" runs until Saturday 12th May.<br />

<br />
"In my paintings I want to share my love of nature and the countryside and bring the joy of life, colour and vitality into every picture," says Sally, whose favourite subjects are landscapes, flowers and trees.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTU6ixuDARs0X-lu2ebnPHr7ta6KibmbjWN0td9Xq-DZLkSEDGHgvl0CzW33rRW8B_07XpeiBSJy8kGYKiDC_fH3WN3LO8o4QP6xOORe1r5Yj_GAiJr4ivYj_pG6g8oppXo8kioiZ3P5rI/s1600/Colours+of+the+Weald+80x60cm+acrylic+on+canvas+L325+Sally+Scott.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTU6ixuDARs0X-lu2ebnPHr7ta6KibmbjWN0td9Xq-DZLkSEDGHgvl0CzW33rRW8B_07XpeiBSJy8kGYKiDC_fH3WN3LO8o4QP6xOORe1r5Yj_GAiJr4ivYj_pG6g8oppXo8kioiZ3P5rI/s320/Colours+of+the+Weald+80x60cm+acrylic+on+canvas+L325+Sally+Scott.jpg" width="320" height="237" data-original-width="640" data-original-height="474" /></a><br />
<br />
"Most days I walk and absorb the landscape, looking, photographing and jotting down ideas for new paintings."<br />
<br />
Then back in the studio, Sally draws out a rough idea of the painting's composition with masking fluid before using acrylic inks and spraying water to give a natural flow and energy to her work.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQZB_4ExaXwFn-IhdnxUUSbwxM9QyvldPSAUZvFRYW_t5H0J9jdYEUSQ8VQtcnlZW9zEV1bKVWL-AoL8mEcfyRPv-TG9J0N06ff_tUhx7RyhvggS-3XeM_8tNSKlPdNSwoKFQbMhdh7O4M/s1600/Sally+Scott+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQZB_4ExaXwFn-IhdnxUUSbwxM9QyvldPSAUZvFRYW_t5H0J9jdYEUSQ8VQtcnlZW9zEV1bKVWL-AoL8mEcfyRPv-TG9J0N06ff_tUhx7RyhvggS-3XeM_8tNSKlPdNSwoKFQbMhdh7O4M/s320/Sally+Scott+2.jpg" width="320" height="237" data-original-width="1452" data-original-height="1077" /></a><br />
<br />
Sometimes she floods the paper and manipulates the colour, carefully moving the paint in a "thoughtful but imprecise" way.<br />
<br />
"Waiting as areas dry before moving on, and learning to walk away to let the painting embed, is always a challenge," she says.<br />
<br />
"As the piece dries, I think about the light: the contrast of light and shade as the depth and form of the piece emerges. I mark, use brush ends, scrape or etch patterns, blot with tissue and add details to give structure, sometimes layering on pieces of tissue paper to give a further dimension."<br />

After her degree in metalwork and jewellery, she began a career in the prop-making industry. She enjoyed making costume props on Star Wars and Gladiator, fabricating crazy critters at Jim Henson's Creature Shop in Camden and painting Disney characters for their flagship stores around the world.<br />

<br />
With a great fondness for animals, Victoria is fascinated by the humour and personality they show through body language and expressions. It's this that her work is primarily based on - creating images that are slightly off-beat, bold and occasionally humorous.<br />

"My painting technique is all about the detail achieved in the layers which are built up until the essence of the subject has been captured," says Victoria.<br />

Naomi has been working with glass for about 25 years.<br />
<br />
"I love the colours and the textures that glass provides and the long history that accompanies it," she says. "I like the structure that the making of stained glass gives me, but I am always looking for ways to push the boundaries."<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1WeNLZksBEe3AHdW0ybBKfYjfvqsdVZ9682f5sgsWrgk9KeNZH_lx-5Xt2yr-KnyoecW1zQV1VRO0cLteCS5GswTEH-MGLUHg_P30wONEKT5hQ2QFu6nTQYX6VPEItMX4nMOQiovdzdGH/s1600/naomi+squirrel.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1WeNLZksBEe3AHdW0ybBKfYjfvqsdVZ9682f5sgsWrgk9KeNZH_lx-5Xt2yr-KnyoecW1zQV1VRO0cLteCS5GswTEH-MGLUHg_P30wONEKT5hQ2QFu6nTQYX6VPEItMX4nMOQiovdzdGH/s320/naomi+squirrel.jpeg" width="252" height="320" data-original-width="504" data-original-height="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Following a Graphic Design/Illustration BA from Norwich University College of the Arts and an MA in Sequential Design/Illustration from the University of Brighton, Naomi took a short course in Stained Glass.<br />
<br />

<br />
"Texture, contrast and colour are things that inspire me, whatever medium I am working in," she says. "I enjoy putting colours and textures of glass together on the lightbox and I like to contrast colours both in glass and in illustration."<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKHIGmLaf8e2I4_M1QI3X90qv68BSXSKYwjRlNMPTrD1ZK5CzpBU8hS7WFGXpGEdZo5pLNGMmMEKjfE8cPKMuB7VCScFzEYCO5ySO2-m_B4zXMBy5IpNrFKgxgfwWE4X2cWkSjZi_m2UE7/s1600/naomi+fox.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKHIGmLaf8e2I4_M1QI3X90qv68BSXSKYwjRlNMPTrD1ZK5CzpBU8hS7WFGXpGEdZo5pLNGMmMEKjfE8cPKMuB7VCScFzEYCO5ySO2-m_B4zXMBy5IpNrFKgxgfwWE4X2cWkSjZi_m2UE7/s320/naomi+fox.jpeg" width="241" height="320" data-original-width="482" data-original-height="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Following many thumbnail drawings in her sketchbook, Naomi makes each glass piece using the copper foil stained glass technique developed originally by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the 19th century.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh7cRKZT0dxUCVQgkAFYU7rMMRov9TDXQy2wZ6bXtzWtpmuTCB3TBCq5guRIe_ZPBTI3gur5JH3IRKonieX1b164vxc5fzdk2H7z2U44zV0bK8vIS4Rjb1wsRR9AefPJHgthRAxL8K1uxa/s1600/naomi+boat.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhh7cRKZT0dxUCVQgkAFYU7rMMRov9TDXQy2wZ6bXtzWtpmuTCB3TBCq5guRIe_ZPBTI3gur5JH3IRKonieX1b164vxc5fzdk2H7z2U44zV0bK8vIS4Rjb1wsRR9AefPJHgthRAxL8K1uxa/s320/naomi+boat.jpeg" width="274" height="320" data-original-width="548" data-original-height="640" /></a><br />
<br />
"This gives me the flexibility with the forms my work takes and allows me to take liberties with the objects I include. I make decorative glass landscapes and beach scenes using a collage of shells and found items from local beaches as well as semi-precious stones."<br />
<br />
Naomi's work forms part of our exhibition supporting Chestnut Tree House children's hospice, "Through the Eyes of a Child". <br />

If you watched BBC2's The Great Pottery Throwdown last year, you may already be familiar with Iveta's work (on the right in this picture) as it was used as an example to the contestants...<br />
<br />

<br />
Iveta set up her own pottery studio in West Sussex in 2004, having studied ceramics in her home country of the Czech Republic, where she also worked in TV films and cartoon studios. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGy3su_OMwBPScwWekgxESiEejHsjRcIuu0Hewmg1vJwsz-cCHTarz0Du4GEaGalTRE9m2cSMHyuTawT4aG18iEwKQdm7X6xythlJSlF6LihgEKLytztYI3Lx31aa2vpzWHS-zPm6n4ffE/s1600/iveta.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGy3su_OMwBPScwWekgxESiEejHsjRcIuu0Hewmg1vJwsz-cCHTarz0Du4GEaGalTRE9m2cSMHyuTawT4aG18iEwKQdm7X6xythlJSlF6LihgEKLytztYI3Lx31aa2vpzWHS-zPm6n4ffE/s320/iveta.jpg" width="226" height="320" data-original-width="353" data-original-height="500" /></a><br />
<br />
She makes contemporary, unique pieces, including wheel-based bowls, cups and tealights as well as innovative wall plaques, clocks, lamps and boats, which are slab-built.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nB3zMaVlgZiDj73ZthHd2lVsYh5H6LfQm1asFHjckchpkIdasCvp297IJ0XSNYVpp711SFuhulTA6BNeC_9MRtEvsrIEf88eTB1qCMh8bXfXSjUHE9hSXApDmY-N2rFm2jI2DbaIGUJD/s1600/image2+%25281%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-nB3zMaVlgZiDj73ZthHd2lVsYh5H6LfQm1asFHjckchpkIdasCvp297IJ0XSNYVpp711SFuhulTA6BNeC_9MRtEvsrIEf88eTB1qCMh8bXfXSjUHE9hSXApDmY-N2rFm2jI2DbaIGUJD/s320/image2+%25281%2529.jpeg" width="289" height="320" data-original-width="578" data-original-height="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Her pottery is made in white earthenware or stoneware. The design is achieved using techniques such as engraving, carving and stamping following minimalistic decoration with oxides and colourful glazes. Finally the pieces are fired in an electric kiln to 1020 - 1240 degrees celsius.<br />

<br />
"I enjoy the whole process of creating something from an idea which can come from anywhere at any time," says Iveta. <br />
"For example, the idea for the shape of the clocks came from an interesting stone that I saw in an ornamental garden."<br />

Sarah says she is driven to create art "which celebrates life and conveys a sense of wonder at nature's mysteries". <br />
<br />
"My work is inspired by nature and the birds, beasts, botany and beings which inhabit our world," she explains. Her work includes wrens and robins, as well as running hares that reflect the phases of the moon.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUfeUj-4U9auB9El7NZHsjb7zev9FiWf_m2nG_Q7heLo7NYFB8m53egofc8sDPgcsIvsF5k47m7xMSvauqHQuyuiM3_3XiFAXwMPsmgNLvw2-pT5N9NGaHQdTfQKiefUHumefT2Ufrhqa4/s1600/download.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUfeUj-4U9auB9El7NZHsjb7zev9FiWf_m2nG_Q7heLo7NYFB8m53egofc8sDPgcsIvsF5k47m7xMSvauqHQuyuiM3_3XiFAXwMPsmgNLvw2-pT5N9NGaHQdTfQKiefUHumefT2Ufrhqa4/s320/download.jpg" width="240" height="320" data-original-width="194" data-original-height="259" /></a><br />
<br />
She has a life-long fascination with angels, which stems from a spiritual experience in early childhood, when she saw a benevolent, other-wordly figure smiling at her from the end of her parents' bed.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSsMDTM6HOU77nr17MuqnTYBU3q-H-4ZeA7e9_0ypgd3Xcic32ohbsIfuP7AYPWh4S7kCou9AH3vam12POCYfHuAHYvu7r9qxfJpQu9PAPeO9_YUFgEuMVhNe8Qq4KMbrPeOp9_s5Y3_wQ/s1600/sarah+rickard+angel.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSsMDTM6HOU77nr17MuqnTYBU3q-H-4ZeA7e9_0ypgd3Xcic32ohbsIfuP7AYPWh4S7kCou9AH3vam12POCYfHuAHYvu7r9qxfJpQu9PAPeO9_YUFgEuMVhNe8Qq4KMbrPeOp9_s5Y3_wQ/s320/sarah+rickard+angel.jpg" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1200" data-original-height="900" /></a><br />
<br />
Her angels, which take stylistic inspiration from William Morris, are constructed in white earthenware and decorated with oxides, underglazes and transfers, which are created from her original drawings and paintings.<br />
<br />

"People buy them for many different reasons," explains Sarah. "Sometimes for friends or relations who are going through a difficult time or sometimes to put over a baby's cot."<br />
<br />
Sarah lives and works in Heathfield, East Sussex.<br />

As you may know, 2018 marks the Gallery's 10th birthday, which we are celebrating by supporting Sussex children's hospice Chestnut Tree House throughout the year. <br />
<br />
Having kicked off our year-long support at the end of January with our Annual Art Sale, the focal point of our campaign is the Gallery's spring exhibition. By giving the exhibition the title "Through the Eyes of a Child", we hope to also raise awareness in the local area of the charity and its work.<br />
<br />
The exhibition was launched last Saturday with an extra special party. At the Chestnut Tree House awareness stall, manned by community fundraiser Jayne Todd, we welcomed our MP, Sir Nicholas Soames, who was tasked with officially opening the exhibition..<br />

Once the Gallery was closed yesterday afternoon, we jumped on the train to London to attend last night's Private View of David Fawcett's solo exhibition, "Observations of a London Commuter".<br />

<br />
On display at D-Contemporary Gallery, in the heart of London's prestigious Mayfair art district, are 41 new paintings, all inspired by David's own life.<br />
<br />

<br />
"Working in London, commuting and working in an office, going to see clients, travelling on the Tube - all these aspects of my life have provided me with great subject matter for paintings," he says.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZ5WH5hpL-eIxE2On0eHb30PtRQX4_ImM2IFYj9IPCsqkTjt6D-LM5t9qX_yrtAlAO6sJTzE-HyCZmfydUA4Y5O2iy7AYONEwwXnq1mFuObGxvjmUJ_eBSRk_4zCrsUCFixrHVN1b5hIq/s1600/image1+%252828%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBZ5WH5hpL-eIxE2On0eHb30PtRQX4_ImM2IFYj9IPCsqkTjt6D-LM5t9qX_yrtAlAO6sJTzE-HyCZmfydUA4Y5O2iy7AYONEwwXnq1mFuObGxvjmUJ_eBSRk_4zCrsUCFixrHVN1b5hIq/s320/image1+%252828%2529.jpeg" width="320" height="273" data-original-width="470" data-original-height="401" /></a><br />
"Tube Strike"<br />
<br />
And as we have come to expect from David, there is usually a humorous theme or narrative to the image, often further reinforced by titles such as "You'll have to speak up John, I'm passing a load of Hare Krishnas", "I never took Maureen's stapler without asking again" and "Sometimes I'll hide behind a tree to avoid walking to the station with Bob".<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTgxtgw3FBw7Q2tQDgt19kwhrfgZo8-3AadY_leje4nu7eTWW1zIuJm0gIkKc4lD2EHK5bMGKTYoUyUGEQHwdkKCliA7ZxOLdlQxZnzFOtG2Bdibxl16isGeEjWr0AVcGGwZqjAIawiFVk/s1600/image1+%252819%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTgxtgw3FBw7Q2tQDgt19kwhrfgZo8-3AadY_leje4nu7eTWW1zIuJm0gIkKc4lD2EHK5bMGKTYoUyUGEQHwdkKCliA7ZxOLdlQxZnzFOtG2Bdibxl16isGeEjWr0AVcGGwZqjAIawiFVk/s320/image1+%252819%2529.jpeg" width="240" height="320" data-original-width="480" data-original-height="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Spread out over two floors, the paintings provoked much laughter among the guests, who included the artist's family, easily identifiable by their height! <br />
<br />

<br />
Now in its fifth year, our Macmillan Coffee Morning has morphed into a full day of fundraising for this worthy cause.<br />
<br />
We served coffee, tea and home-baked cakes and biscuits on Lavender Bazaar's delicate vintage china and provided a "rummage table" of Gallery-donated stock, including ends-of-lines, Christmas decorations and cards, which were all available for a Macmillan donation. <br />
<br />
But the highlight of the day was a Silent Auction of 28 lots, all very generously donated by our Artists and Makers.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoaBwjjmXytB1Xp7rKWUu06zztPuQc_wvFq3Rh1o9VCKZc4iv2REp68IQmnqhQxPBCu2ceo1Q_vFJjKZA9FJXs0AUbMWn9sEchil05Vj_A8aipaFInsVU4scyDpP7NzipqdCy5_CVsp4q9/s1600/image1+%25281%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoaBwjjmXytB1Xp7rKWUu06zztPuQc_wvFq3Rh1o9VCKZc4iv2REp68IQmnqhQxPBCu2ceo1Q_vFJjKZA9FJXs0AUbMWn9sEchil05Vj_A8aipaFInsVU4scyDpP7NzipqdCy5_CVsp4q9/s320/image1+%25281%2529.jpeg" width="320" height="320" data-original-width="1080" data-original-height="1080" /></a><br />
<br />
There was something for everyone, mosaics, original paintings, a photographic canvas, prints, glassware, sculptures, textiles, jewellery and cards.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrfV2VSEkmQ1e1FW4xXABZFg9TcWudM8CjlSzu8ZjxwIdtOeC1yKo-0O2vQa-EfFTlveLlHUcpNK1oZduYaRBX5bD4q7BsNxlwN3UmarlV0un-0Svc_Q34XJc7lHdAhesQ6rvX7wdOz1cj/s1600/image1+%252814%2529.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrfV2VSEkmQ1e1FW4xXABZFg9TcWudM8CjlSzu8ZjxwIdtOeC1yKo-0O2vQa-EfFTlveLlHUcpNK1oZduYaRBX5bD4q7BsNxlwN3UmarlV0un-0Svc_Q34XJc7lHdAhesQ6rvX7wdOz1cj/s320/image1+%252814%2529.jpeg" width="320" height="232" data-original-width="632" data-original-height="458" /></a> <br />
<br />
Having counted up all the coffee and cake donations, the auction proceeds, the "rummage table" donations and the Gallery's own donation, we are delighted to announce that we beat last year's total, raising £1,174! <br />
<br />
We couldn't have done this without the help of everyone who attended on the day, customers who have since put a donation in the pot and of course, the lovely artists who donated their work to the Silent Auction.<br />
<br />
In no particular order, they were Paul Guthrie, Gill Copeland, Jo Hodder, Zed Talijan, Miranda Peckitt, Four Hands Etched Glass, Stephanie Else, Jackie Bishop, Claire Medhurst, Nichola Campbell, Helen Brown, Emma Bird, Deborah Timperley, Sarah Beevers, Claire O'Neill, Studio Shards, Misha Seelhoff and Victoria Lovell.<br />
<br />
Our particular thanks go to Julie Janvrin and Tiff Thomas for their invaluable help on the day.<br />

Her work has been accepted by the Pastel Society, the Society for Women Artists and, since 2006, has been included in the Venice in Peril exhibition at the WH Patterson Gallery in Westminster.<br />

Jo paints a variety of subjects and enjoys all mediums. This versatility leads to a high demand for commissions, including portraits, landscapes, homes and animals. Her more experimental impressionist work has received international acclaim.<br />

Gill grew up in Yorkshire. Qualifying with an HND in professional photography, she started her career as a travel photographer and later set up a commercial studio in London, winning numerous awards for her photographic work.<br />

<br />
On starting a family, Gill had an eight-year break from photography and worked in the corporate sector. After being made redundant, she started heading out on a Monday with a camera and notebook and began to sell her coastal images.<br />

Gill held her first photography exhibition in 2002 and within months had sold hundreds of copies of her work in special edition print. Today her work is sold, collected and published internationally. <br />
<br />
In 2014 she combined photos from her weekly travels along the Sussex coastline with her reflections on life, publishing a book entitled "Going out on a Monday".<br />

Painting is David Fawcett's antidote to the daily commute to London.<br />
"I try to paint every evening," he says. "After a day commuting and working in London, it's just what I need."<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4uIBAnlHL9luGz0DOAivosyVHlDwiuv-s_E4yLwGD-3nJodCG5jGpOoM-dKhL8HhU9s8CnRhLhaHw8oXcW9st0LM43cgATOr2V_7zRVMBDglJgmsAHUdAKGv6CGsDnSzrooy0bGvBgebK/s1600/david+fawcett.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4uIBAnlHL9luGz0DOAivosyVHlDwiuv-s_E4yLwGD-3nJodCG5jGpOoM-dKhL8HhU9s8CnRhLhaHw8oXcW9st0LM43cgATOr2V_7zRVMBDglJgmsAHUdAKGv6CGsDnSzrooy0bGvBgebK/s320/david+fawcett.JPG" width="254" height="320" data-original-width="1160" data-original-height="1459" /></a><br />
<br />
He is self-taught and works in acrylics.<br />
<br />
"Over the years, I have developed a style that I'm happy with," says David, who has worked in London as a Notary Public since 1988. <br />
<br />
Most of his paintings are based on his observations of people and reflect his day-to-day life - at home with the family, commuting to and from London, using the Tube and working in an office.<br />
<br />
"I often try and look for a humorous element in my paintings - a situation which can be identified with or related to," says David. "To convey this idea, I have found that the title is often particularly important. If the title strikes a chord, it really enahnces the image."<br />
<br />
Here's the perfect illustration of this.....<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKo4eHuUECN0UDh0vnKmRl-2qtSo7XRPPmYpZA0CTNvsF3GeT1upcWiUmgBK-PgrLRFVBwhM_cDD2K5n4v55T0Yq2dBsVfhLIZtyw7SuLqneJzprGjw5ogfZreq3Xz4AXv67H1YCwwvS4g/s1600/007.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKo4eHuUECN0UDh0vnKmRl-2qtSo7XRPPmYpZA0CTNvsF3GeT1upcWiUmgBK-PgrLRFVBwhM_cDD2K5n4v55T0Yq2dBsVfhLIZtyw7SuLqneJzprGjw5ogfZreq3Xz4AXv67H1YCwwvS4g/s320/007.JPG" width="320" height="314" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1572" /></a><br />
.........titled "Discussing Brexit".<br />
<br />
Amongst the many David Fawcett fans is Ted Baker founder and CEO, Ray Kelvin, whose purchase of David's work led to an unusual collaboration. <br />
<br />
"Ray Kelvin has bought my work and recently used three images for a holdall, wash bag and phone case design." <br />
<br />
David regularly exhibits in London galleries and his work as been shown at the Royal Academy.<br />
<br />
"A British Summer" continues until 2nd September.<br />
