Introducing...Mike Cheetham

The last of our artists exhibiting in "To Linger in a Garden Fair" is sculptor Mike Cheetham.

Mike painted in a variety of media for more than 25 years before returning to stone-carving five years ago.

He originally attended a short course in Streat with Helen-Mary Skelton, daughter of the sculptor John Skelton and has been attending the Skelton Workshops' courses ever since.

Initially producing figurative pieces from his workshop in Hurstpierpoint, Mike soon moved to more abstract forms and is particularly influenced by Barbara Hepworth.

"I often choose unusual shapes and varieties of stone and just 'see what emerges' until I am satisfied with shapes and textures that please me," says Mike.

"To Linger in a Garden Fair" ends on Saturday 6th May.
