Glorious glass....

After a week of rain, floods and definitely autumnal temperatures we feel the need for some colour. So this week we are showing you stunning glassware of Glory Art Glass. Each piece is hand-made by Martin Evans, his wife Nicky and their two sons, who together run Glory Art Glass from their studio gallery at Sandown on the Isle of Wight. Often only a dozen or so pieces a day are made and no two pieces are the same. Right now in the Green Tree Gallery we have birds....
and snails....
flowers....
and toadstools...
as well as bigger pieces: tree sculptures swirling with colour, vases smothered in cherry blossom and nasturtiums...and colour-drenched torso sculptures......
Next week, we will be gathering in exhibits and planning for "Enchanted Forests", which will run from October 13th to November 4th....

Artist of the Week : Faye Mayo

This week we're showing you the work of ceramicist Faye Mayo. Whether it's a tiny pinch pot, a larger vessel or a torso sculpture, the eye is drawn to the vivid blues and greens of each piece's glazed interior.
Faye describes the contrasting exteriors of her pieces as having a 'sense of fragility, delicacy and being only temporary' and she intentionally leaves the marks of the making process - the kneeding and fingerprints - visible on the outside surface.
New to the Green Tree Gallery are Faye's 'Wave' platters where aqua and blue waves ripple gently across the surface....
...and her 'Restful' platter featuring a sleeping young woman in a blue dress nestling peacefully amongst wild flowers, leaves and butterflies.

Last week we were looking forward to the magic and mystery of Enchanted Forests, our next exhibition in October. This week, not wanting to wish our lives away, we thought we'd invite you in to see what we have in the gallery right now.....
.....Come on in, have a good look around....
...There's lots to see...but be sure not to miss Angela Jenkinson's fused glass hangings. Horsham-based Angela's colourful glass placques and tealight holders are scattered with wildflowers and seedheads and are priced between £15 and £75.

Enchanted Forests, a sneaky peek...

Well, 'Gone to the Dogs' may be over but here at the Green Tree Gallery we are looking forward to our next exhibition 'Enchanted Forests'. Although the exhibition does not start until 13th October, we thought we'd give you a sneaky peek of some of the wonderful work we will be showing....
The Blackthorn King is by Karen Davis
and these cheeky chaps are by our own Victoria Lovell. Enchanted Forests will run from 13th October to 4th November. In the meantime, there is still plenty for you to look at and enjoy in our sun-drenched Gallery: a wallful of woodcuts of local scenes by Helen Brown, vibrant paintings of both local and more exotic scenes by Min Maude, ethereal ceramics by Faye Mayo and hand-blown glass flowers from Isle of Wight-based Glory Art Glass.
